Tom & Jerry
When Henry Mancini called me in the spring of 1991 to invite me to write half a dozen songs with him for Tom & Jerry-The Movie, my instantaneous reaction was to find myself back in the Ritz and Empire Theatres, Leicester Square, in London in the mid-1940s, marveling that these happy childhood memories should have come to seek me out nearly half a century later and allow me to become a part of them. Hank and I had great fun writing those songs. They fulfilled another long-lasting related ambition of mine - to work on an animated movie for the first time. The entire production team, led by Roger Mayer of Turner Entertainment and Phil Roman, the film’s producer, were a pleasure to work with, and it was a totally happy experience, which I guess is the way one would like to imagine such a project would be. It isn’t always the case.
